It’ll never be over between the two of them. Not with the way Martin now lingers behind. His gaze, his fleeting touches, his words try to cling to Dale and claim a bond.
It gives me satisfaction that Dale looks uncomfortable the times he realizes what Martin is trying to do. He tries to make it up to me with words and deeds that aren’t necessary. My pleas telling him having him is enough fall on deaf ears. He lavishes me with attention, attention he once kept bottled inside.
They’re only friends now. I just hope it stays that way.
