~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He wants to fight. It’s an irrational urge but that’s what he wants to do. He needs to get it out of his system before it’s too late. He’s always been a fighter, always has been since grade school. In grade school, he was one of the smallest and one that was always picked on. He might’ve been short and small but he packed a mean punch.
Nowadays, he’s tall and lanky and every girl wants him while every guy wants to be him. He’d trade it all in for the one he wants to love him back. But it’s not to be. He can’t have him no matter what he does. It’s a struggle between the public perception and what one really wants and Martin’s given into the public perception.
He can’t have him but he’d fight for him if he could. He can’t because...because it would tear their worlds down around them and all they have is their world of racing. He offered him the world on a platter and was rejected for it. He hurts and needs him and can’t deny him.
He wants to fight to save his heart. He wants to have someone fight to save his heart. He wants someone to care enough to want him that much.
He’s tired of living behind the image. He’s tired of being torn in two. He’s tired of having his heart ripped out every time he sees him.
His season’s doing better, he’s supposed to be happier. He’s supposed to have everything he’s ever wanted right at his fingertips. He’d trade it all in for one more chance, one more look, one more kiss.
It’ll never happen. Not ‘til years have gone by and hurt has followed him around for too long to count. A dull throbbing pain lodged inside him with no way to pry it free. He’ll watch the children grow up; his own and his. They’ll be godfathers to each other’s children. They’ll live on adjoining properties, never more than a phone call or a short drive away.
They’ll be old and grey and if he’s lucky, they might find their way back to each other. But he doubts it’ll happen.
He’s a fighter and always has been, but this fight, this fight he just can’t win. It’s taken all he has to survive this long. He loves him and always will but he can’t fight any longer.
