Pre-Production – Week 3

Harvick Household - Kernersville, North Carolina – January 19th, 2009

I’m wondering who we can get on the show while we’re getting ready for the RCR media tour dinner. There’s plenty of drivers and that means I can get one each week and then some but really do I want some of those people on my show? I dictate the rules and regulations here so it figures I should get to say who comes on. I hear Gordon’s been flying commercial and I’m thinking he’ll be the next guest in line after I get Stewart and Earnhardt on. Then there’s Bowyer and Burton of course and people from KHI and RCR so that’ll take up a couple weeks. Hopefully we’ll have a bunch of shit happen like it did last year and we won’t be hurting for things to talk about.

Who knows? We might even end up talking about some of D’s grudge buys. I’m sure I’ll end up causing a few of those. At least we’re announcing something both of us can be happy about tonight. Carmichael’s gonna drive the 4 truck for us and we’re calling it the KHI All Star team. We just need to fill a few more dates with sponsors then we’ll be set. I wonder if I can con Bowyer back into a truck or something. He’ll be antsy to get into some rides once his turns in the Nationwide car dry up. It’s hard to let it all go when it’s all you’ve known for a while.

Here’s hoping it all goes quick tonight. These media things always take for-freaking-ever. Maybe this year’ll be the exception and we can cut out early. Glance in the mirror and smooth my hands down the front of my suit. There’s still more planning to do on guests and whatever the hell segments and features we’ll have. Still have to play around with the equipment some even with June showing me how to work it. Still needa figure out how to con Earnhardt out of his sound effects board. It's not like he needs it anymore.

You know, maybe I could make him be part of the show on a regular basis. Not sure if D would go for it but that’d be fun. We don’t get to hang out as often as we’d like and though it’s a bit more public than we’re used to maybe his schedule could fit around it. Could try and get Bowyer too when he’s not hazing the rookies.

Head downstairs with my suit jacket in hand and wonder if it’ll be warm enough against our latest cold snap. I should ask Earnhardt where he got that fancy ass jacket he wore to Fan Fest. I really can’t believe he has something like that now. It's goofy looking for him but I bet it's really warm since he doesn’t go for fashion over comfort.  I wonder what other changes he's made in the off season cause I'm starting to think him being over at Hendrick is going to his head.

Ron’s racing this weekend in Irwindale’s All Star Showdown but we’ve got testing. I’d like to be there cause it’s cause it’s supposed to be some intense racing. If it’s anything like the Oxford 250 up in Maine, it’s gotta be good cause that was some damn good racing up there. I enjoy those kinds of races where they’re hard, fast, and right in your face. Who knows maybe I’ll get a chance to get in the Showdown myself next year.

I’m hoping I’ll be able to catch some of the Rolex this weekend to see if Johnson can manage to keep from breaking the car again.  I highly doubt it. He couldn’t help himself last year. What makes this year any different? If he does I know he’d make a good guest.  I could try to get him to tell us about the whole disastrous experience. Could even see about getting Mears too.

Check my watch because we need to get going soon. RC’s pretty forgiving but being late to a media dinner still wouldn’t go over too well. Where the hell is D? " Hurry it up, D!” I holler up the stairs.  Having Johnson and Mears on would be good just as long as Johnson doesn’t decide to sweep Speedweeks or something. Can’t be shown up on my own show after all. Not to mention there’s nothing more boring than listening to him talk about winning.
