Part 13: Old Loves

Xander and Willow walked hand in hand through the lobby of the hotel. "This will be our first meal as married people," she said with a smile.

"What would be considered festive, as breakfast food goes?" asked Xander.

"Eggs Benedict is special occasion worthy," she replied seriously.

"Muffins are good. They have their little paper party hats on. They're ready for a good time," he said. He stopped and pulled her close. "And we could have orange juice. That's one bright and happy beverage. We'll have a little glass of sunshine to start off the day right." They smiled at each other, giddy with newlywed bliss.

"Xander?" said a surprised female voice. They turned and looked behind them. Angel and Cordelia stood side by side. "Willow?"

There was an awkward pause. "Are you guys here for the wedding?" asked Willow.

"What wedding?" asked Angel, his brow furrowed.

Buffy was fast asleep in her bed. Spike sat on the couch, his feet up as he sipped a mug of blood. He held the baby name book in his lap, and looked through it thoughtfully. "Wendy Walthrop," he said to himself. He smiled and highlighted something with a blue marker.

Giles plumped up a pillow and shoved it behind Anya's back. They rested against the headboard. He handed her a cup of tea from the tray that was balanced precariously on the bed. "So you've actually met a Morayma demon," he asked her, fascinated.

"I'm friends with a few of them," she responded. "We could have dinner with them sometime."

"Really! That would be fascinating," he replied.

"Of course the food might be a little weird," said the blonde.

"Oh. What do they eat?" he asked, curious.

"It's just the most unnatural, disgusting thing," she said. He looked at her apprehensively. "They're vegetarians."

Dawn stood in front of the mirror in her bathroom. Her hair had been dyed black and cut into a short bob right below her ears. She held up a hand mirror, and angled it so that she could see the side of her head. A large ball stud pierced the top cartilage of her ear. Careful not to disturb the large gauze bandage that covered her back, she pulled on a silk robe. She sat on her bed and pulled a large leather bound book from her bag. She read and whispered something over and over.

"Spike and Buffy?" said Cordelia loudly. "Are devils gliding around on little ice skates now or what?"

Angel stood beside her, his face blank. "Well, that's not what's important right now. We have a job to do."

"I had a vision," explained Cordelia. "Drusilla is going to come here and torture someone to death."

"Oh my God," said Willow, her eyes wide. "Drusilla?" She turned to Xander. "We have to tell Spike."

"The only reason she would come here would be to ruin the wedding," he reasoned. "We can't let Spike or Buffy know."

"I've got it under control," explained Angel. "I'm here to see someone. He has to help me."

"As always, Angelus, you make assumptions based on nothing," said Aurelius as he appeared behind them.

"You guys know each other?" asked Xander.

"He's the sire of our line," explained Angel.

"You know. The children of Aurelius?" said Cordy condescendingly.

"Oh," said Willow wide-eyed.

Dawn lay on her stomach and dozed on her bed, her book facedown on the pillow beside her. A delicate white hand slithered through her hair. "Aren't you a pretty little thing?" Dawn rolled onto her side, and looked into the demon face of Drusilla. She screamed and scrabbled off her bed. "There's no need to fight it, little bird," said Drusilla as she moved towards her. "There's no way to fly away now."

Dawn pressed her back against the wall and yelled with pain. Dru advanced on her, until she was mere inches from her face. "You smell like lovely, lovely blood," she said. She opened her mouth and bared her fangs. Dawn winced and turned her head. "You smell like blood and something else," the vampire purred, "something rich and dark." She spun Dawn around and pulled down her robe, which revealed the bandage underneath. Drusilla ripped it off with one quick movement. Dawn screamed in anguish. The anticipatory smile on the vampire's face faded and she shifted back to her human appearance. She stared at the tattoo.

The newlyweds, the vampires, and the seer sat around the glossy black table of a conference room. "Drusilla's presence alone wouldn't be enough to stop the wedding," Aurelius reasoned. "The Slayer would just stake her, step over her ashes and proceed on down the aisle."

"I don't understand what she's thinking," said Xander. "She broke up with Spike. Why would she care that he's getting married?"

"She's insane, Xander," said Angel. "She thrives on chaos and suffering." He made a pained face.

"Yes, you did quite an admirable of job of forming her with your own sadistic mold," said Aurelius.

"That wasn't him," defended Cordy. "He is good now."

"Ah yes, the soul," said Aurelius sardonically. "It washes away all your sins." He stared at Angel. "Except for the one that continues to follow in your illustrious footsteps."

"This bickering isn't going to help anything," said Willow. "We have to find the person that Drusilla is going to hurt and stop her from doing it."

"In the vision, it was a girl with short black hair. She had a huge tattoo on her back." Cordelia furrowed her brow. "It was a sun, with two small stars."

Angel looked at Aurelius quizzically. "That's the mark of Aurelius," he said. "Why would a human girl mark herself with your emblem?"

The older vampire looked sick. "No, no," he said. "No, she couldn't have."

"What? What are you talking about?" asked Willow.

Aurelius stood up, frantic. "Killing an innocent girl wouldn't stop the wedding," he said. "But killing the Slayer's sister would."

Giles and Anya made love on the floor. An overturned teapot, smashed crockery and a large silver tray surrounded them. Giles moved slowly, deliberately in and out as they kissed. She turned her face into his shoulder and sighed. "Harder," she said, and he picked up the pace. Her nails scored the flesh of his back. "I feel so safe. Don't let me go," she said dreamily.

He came in a rush. "I love you," he said softly in her ear. She looked at him, surprised, and then she came, her cry of pleasure echoing off the walls.

She ran her finger over his lips. He stared down at her, his eyes full of warmth. "Did you say." she began hesitantly. A loud knock on the door interrupted her. They quickly pulled apart. Anya threw on a robe as Giles hurried under the covers.

Anya opened the door. A very tired looking Tara stood in the doorway. "I am not a prude," she began. "I think sex is a valid and healthy way of expressing your feelings. " She looked at Anya. "But all night long, I have listened to banging, and moaning, and screaming. It is morning now. The all-nighter is done. Please go express your feelings elsewhere." She turned on her heel and went back to her room.

Drusilla walked down the corridor holding an enthralled Dawn by the hand. "Pathetic humans," Drusilla muttered under her breath. "Little bitches. Stealing hearts and messing up plans." Dawn moved as if drugged, her face empty of expression.

"You were born to do this," Spike said adoringly.

"You're pretty good yourself," Buffy said with a smile.

They moved together perfectly as they waltzed around the suite. "You are such a quick learner," he said admiringly. "You've really got it!" She smiled at him and promptly stepped hard on his foot.

"Damn it!" he yelled.

"Sorry, sorry," she apologized.

He winced. "No big deal," he said sweetly. "It's best to get all our mistakes out of the way while no one is watching."

Angel and Cordelia looked at a wall of video screens in a control room. Aurelius sat at the keyboard and selected the cameras for them to view. "I don't see them yet," said Willow, as different areas of the hotel flickered past on the monitors.

Xander pointed to one screen. "There, in that elevator. Look, its Drusilla!" he said. They all looked at the image. Drusilla held tightly to Dawn, her hand clenched around her neck. The vampire
looked straight into the camera and waved hello.

Aurelius growled. "We need to distract her attention," he said. "We need to get her away from Dawn."

"We could get Spike," suggested Angel. "He's the reason Dru's here in the first place. And we have to tell Buffy. Her sister is in danger; she has a right to know."

"No," said Willow firmly. "I don't want to upset Buffy. She doesn't need any surprises. She needs to stay calm and relaxed for the baby's sake."

"What baby?" asked Cordelia.

"Look, Cordy," said Xander in exasperation. "Obviously Spike and Buffy didn't want the two of you in the loop. Just go home."

"Thanks for telling us about Drusilla," said Willow earnestly. "But let us handle it. We're the Scoobies. That's our job, not yours."

"I'll take care of Drusilla," said Aurelius angrily. He stalked from the room. Xander and Willow exchanged a look and ran after him.

"Well, that's gratitude for you," said Cordelia. Angel looked at her and stormed out. "Guess we're not going home yet," she said, and followed him.

Giles and Anya walked into his hotel room. "Wow, this is a very small room," she said as she looked around. The room was furnished in green tones, and held a bedroom set with a king sized bed and an armoire with a television.

"Not all of us can stay up in the penthouse," he said with a smile.

She flopped down on his bed. "I'm yours until four o'clock," she said. "What do you want to do?"

He put down the crumpled paper bag he carried and grabbed a briefcase. "I printed out some information on antiquarian book dealers in Las Vegas," he said as he pulled out a handful of papers.

"That could be fun, I guess," she said with a smile.

He pulled out some more papers and looked at them. "We could go downstairs and take in an exhibit of paintings by the Old Masters. I hear it's an amazing collection."

"Art appreciation day, that's fine too," she said. Her eyes sparkled as she looked at him.

He closed his briefcase and set down his glasses on top of it. He sat down next to her and put his hand up her shirt. Gently, he stroked the soft skin of her belly. "We could make love some more, and I could make you scream my name," he said hoarsely.

"Oh, Giles," she said softly, as he undid the buttons of her blouse.

Drusilla exited the elevator and walked across the lobby. She held Dawn's unconscious body in her arms. "Stall her, Aurelius," said Willow. "I'll have Tara do the summoning right now." She took off with Xander close behind.

Aurelius stalked up to Drusilla. "My emperor," she whispered, as she gazed at him with adoration. "Why do you all want humans?" she asked him plaintively. "Why do all my lovely boys chase after silly warm girls? You're like a pack of dogs in heat." She looked at him. "Am I not a princess?"

He held out his hand to her. "I will make it up to you, my black rose, if you just give her to me."

She pressed Dawn closer to her. "She is my present, Marcus. She is my lovely surprise, the one who will bring me love."

Spike held Buffy in his arms as she slept. Her face was still flushed from their lovemaking. He ran his hands lovingly over her abdomen and kissed her gently on the neck. An insistent pounding filled the room. The vampire frowned as he extricated his fiancée from his arms and pulled on a pair of pants. He opened the door, and looked into the face of Angel.

Willow knocked at Tara's door. The sleepy looking blonde answered the door. "Tara, you have to do a spell," said the redhead earnestly. Xander and Willow walked into the suite.

"I can't, Will. There's no way." Tara yawned. "I'm all tapped out from the spell yesterday and I didn't get any sleep."

"It's Dawnie," said Willow in a panic. "Drusilla will kill her if we don't do something."

Tara was stunned. "But I can't do magick now. There's no way."

Willow turned and looked at Xander. "It has to be me then. I have to do it." He nodded at her in understanding.

The two witches exchanged a look. "This is what magick is for," said Tara. "To fight evil." She sighed. "We have to gather supplies," she said.

"There's no time for that," said Willow. "We'll just have to wing it."

"You said you love me," said Anya. She rested on Giles' chest, and he brushed his hand up and down her arm.

"I did," said Giles. "I do. I've loved you for so long, and it feels so good to be with you." He paused. "I know I shouldn't say these things. I should be satisfied just to have you now, in this moment."

"I care about you, too," she replied. "You make me feel smart. You make me feel good about myself. You make me feel cherished."

"You deserve all that and more, Anya," he said earnestly. "You deserve everything that is good and right that the world has to offer."

"In your arms, I feel happy. I wish it could last forever," she said sadly.

"Let me make it last forever," he said, as he reached for her hand.

"Nothing lasts forever," said Drusilla angrily. "Love is an illusion."

"Love is eternal," said Aurelius, "but hearts can change." His eyes were fixed on Dawn.

"I'm all alone," said Drusilla in misery. "There is no one left for me."

"What the fuck are you doing here, Peaches?" said Spike angrily. He looked over his shoulder and shut the door. "I can't believe that Buffy invited you to our wedding!" He threw up his hands and began to pace. "Bloody terrific! What's next, soldier boy going to pop in? That college twit she shagged that blew her off?" He laughed wildly.

"Spike," interrupted Cordelia. He did a double take.

"Wonderful! Xander's ex! Hate the hairdo, by the way." He continued to rant. "Now all we need is Dogboy and Drusilla, and the roll call will be complete."

Xander and Tara stared at the woman that sat in the middle of the bed. Wide, slanted green eyes peered out of a perfect heart shaped face. Luxurious blonde hair cascaded over her breasts and fell to her waist. "I'm Lorelei," she said in a melodic voice.

"Let's do this," said Willow firmly. Tara took the blonde girl by the hand. Xander helped up his wife and they all ran out of the suite and down the corridor. They turned the corner, and saw Spike, Cordy and Angel.

"What's all this?" asked Spike. The elevator doors opened. A maid rolled out a housekeeping cart.

The Scoobies and the blonde girl rushed into the elevator. "Got to run," said Cordelia. She grabbed Angel and pulled him in. The doors closed in Spike's face.

"Can't wait to find out what that was all about," he said. The door to his suite opened. "Spike? I'm hungry," said Buffy plaintively.

"More important things to worry about," he muttered, as he went to tend to his fiancée.

"Are you sure about this?" asked Anya. They stood in front of a tall office building.

"I have never been more certain of anything," he said with a smile.

"I'm greedy, and needy, and weird," she said solemnly.

"And I'm boring, and old, and unemployed," he said. They looked at each other for a moment and then kissed. She slipped her hand in his and they went inside.

"Please give her to me," said Aurelius. His voice was firm, but his eyes were desperate.

"Undo the claim," said Drusilla. "Let me have her. She is my future. She is my happiness."

"Drusilla," sang a melodic voice. The vampire turned her head. "Drusilla, come to me." Captivated, Dru dropped her burden and walked away.

Aurelius took the girl into his arms. "My sweet Dawn," he said passionately.

Drusilla followed the voice down the hallway. "Come to me, come to me," it sang. She entered a large ballroom, heavily decorated in blood red velvet and gold gilt. "Come to me, Drusilla," sang the voice. She walked up the steps to the stage. A beautiful blonde girl waited for her there. "I will love you forever," sang the Lorelei. "I will stay with you until the end of time."

"Oh please," said Drusilla. "Please stay with me." She flung out her arms. "Please love me. I'm so alone." She wrapped herself into Lorelei's arms and rested her head on her shoulder. The blonde pressed a kiss gently to her head.

Angel plunged a stake into Drusilla's exposed back. She dissolved into dust. Lorelei began to cry. "I hate that part," she sobbed. "Everyone deserves love, and all I can give them is death."

Angel looked down at her with disgust. "You're a siren. It's what you do."

Lorelei stared at the ashes that covered her. "I never wanted to be what I am."

Dawn came to in Aurelius' arms. He had taken her to his home, and they lay together on a large black velvet couch. "Oh, my back," she whimpered. He immediately released her. "Drusilla," she said in a panic.

"She's dead," he said in a flat voice. "She will never be a threat to you ever again."

"You saved me," she said. "I knew you would save me."

"I would never let harm come to you, not if it was in my power to stop it." He touched her shorn hair. "But you insist on harming yourself."

Dawn pressed her lips to his, and he hesitated. She held his head in her hands, and he moved into the embrace with a sigh. They kissed with passion. She slid her mouth down his neck and then bit him violently on the bulging vein on his neck. She sucked the blood from his ripped flesh into her mouth. He moaned, and arched against her as she swallowed his essence. She quickly backed away from him, and scurried across the room. He looked at her with glazed eyes.

"You wouldn't claim me," Dawn said. "So I claim you." She took a breath.

"No," he said horrified.

"For love I have claimed you," she said loudly.

"No!" he screamed, and threw himself to his feet.

"With blood I have bound you," she recited. He threw himself at her, and she fell to the floor. He moved his hand to cover her mouth, but she wildly moved her head from side to side. "Return to me!" she screamed.

Frozen, Aurelius stared into her eyes. His face shifted into demonic form as he plunged his fangs into her neck. He sipped from her as she held him tight. He pulled away and shifted back to his human face.

"The ritual is done," he said softly. "The claim is made. We are bound, as one." She moved to kiss him, and he pulled away. He stood over her. "Damn you," he said angrily. "Damn your foolish pride and your stubborn will."

"I love you," she said simply.

He helped her up, and cradled her in his arms. "And I love you, my most beloved, my immortal bride," he said. They kissed. "And damned are us both because of it."
